Melissa Nicholls completed her degree at the University of Wolverhampton, followed by high skills training at the International Glass Centre in the West Midlands. She is part of a fresh new wave of central England talent and is beginning to establish herself as a creative glass artist.
Melissa says of her work, “twisting lines, explosions of colour and hidden pattern, embodied in soft friendly forms, sit in wait for a curious viewer to ask....”What lies within?”
She employs cup casing and threading techniques combined with fused pick - ups. Her pod pieces are finished by grinding and polishing lenses into the outer layers to give a glimpse of the interior beauty. Her use of bold colours and cold work applications reflect her playful personality. The Pods are just one of her ranges. Take a look at the gallery to see more examples of her work.
Her work has recently featured in the First Gather exhibition at Himley Hall, West Midlands and the Same Difference exhibition in Corning, New York. It can currently be seen at the Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley.
